Name of Event: The Pharaohs of Alexandria Launch Party presented by AEgir Communications Date: April 27th, 2013 Time: 6 PM to Midnight Eastern Daylight Time Location: The Hookah Bar, Al-Merayah, Egypt Join AEgir Communications and Radio Free Gaia as we celebrate the official launch of The Pharaohs of Alexandria, the new novel from Carl "Stuckey" Weaver, the bestselling author of New England Fog. We'll be partying the night away in the town of Al-Merayah on the rooftop of the local Hookah Bar! (Carl Weaver had originally reserved the finest hotel in the city of Alexandria to hold the party...his CEO, Seanne "Shay" Rystaad then promptly cancelled the reservation and moved the party to its new location, stating "There must be hookahs!" as the reason for it.) Radio Free Gaia's DJ-Malak and Sir will be providing the tunes! The first three hours will be dedicated to Carl's favorite music, Classic Rock and Pop from the '70s and '80s. The second half of the night will be more freeform, and the musical selection will be opened up to whatever songs the crowd wants to listen to. Also, be sure to listen for a couple of "special sets" that will be played during the party! Every party guest will receive a complimentary signed copy of The Pharaohs of Alexandria, and there will be an open bar, party food...and yes, hookahs. Make your plans now to join us in Al-Merayah on April 27th. We'll see you there!

As I mentioned in the Announcement post, I'm planning on a couple of themed sets during the party. The first will be based on an Egypt/desert theme. So far, I've come with for that set: The Bangles - Walk Like an Egyptian (of course!) Pam Tillis - Cleopatra, Queen of DenialThe Clash - Rock the CasbahSteve Martin & The Toot Uncommons - King TutI'd like at least a couple more songs for the set, let me know if you have suggestions! The second set I want to put together will be an "AEgir Guilty Pleasure" set. ;D All AEgir employees and friends who'll be at the party can pick one song for the set, but it must be a guilty pleasure for you. Send your songs privately to either myself or Choi, and we'll have some fun trying to guess who picked what song during the party. Hope you're all looking forward to this party as much as I much am to putting it on!

These suggestions for Carl's classic area may not exactly shout Egypt but they do have Middle Eastern influences but also have a great beat: Led Zeppelin - Kashmir Sting - Desert Rose (Jule to Carl: He practices tantric sex for five hours! FIVE!!! ) Ofra Haza - Im Nin'Alu (1988 version) - anything from her but that's the only danceable thing in her catalogue IIRC except Duran Duran - Tel Aviv (once again Middle Eastern feel - Tel Aviv is nearby in West Bank, I think) - Scratch that. Guilty pleasure for Jule: Lemme get back to you on that. (Edit: Ofra Haza's song about the dream of peace in the Middle East: Kirya because peace is bad for business )

Update: We'll have the pleasure of having two great Radio Free Gaia DJs providing the music for the party. DJ-Malak will handle things from 6 PM to 9 PM EDT, and then Sir will take over for the remainder of the event. A big thank you to both of them for volunteering their time for the Launch Party! I'll be getting in touch with both of them soon to make arrangements for the party. Also, I haven't received any guilty pleasure songs for our "special" musical set during the event yet! Be sure to send your choice to me privately so I can incessantly mock you for it pass them along to our DJs.

I've sent in the Egypt playlist to the DJs. I included one song each from everyone who suggested. Still waiting on more entries for the "Guilty Pleasure" set. If I don't get enough, I'm turning it into a "Songs Carl Loves That Will Annoy Everyone Else" set. Fair warning. ;D EDIT: Or better yet, he'll let Jule put together a Beltane-themed set. ;D

Good luck getting Choi or Notes agreeing to play that, it'll destroy their reputation.

Well, with sex being a guilty pleasure for some people out there, that would make sense. A set is about 5-6 songs? I think I could have Jule do that
