I totally sent this out two weeks ago. If you aren't getting it until today blame Anna. Or Jia. Who ever isn't around to defend themself.
it's our annual traditional gift exchange! buy a gift (no gift cards!) for an underling! if you have no underling just buy one for someone who's name has not shown up on the list yet. I'll start.
my gift is for Mila AND Jean and is that I did not throw an Xmas party. who's the best boss ever? you're welcome.

Mila skimmed the message out of the corner of one eye while sipping her evening coffee and catching up on the latest issue of Weird News that lay open on her lap. Her feet were up, the sun was setting, and the Investigations offices were empty but for her. It was, in short, blissfully peaceful, and she allowed herself a small smile as she reached the end of the message and the bit about her "gift" from the CEO.
She took another sip of burnt black coffee before turning back to her magazine's featured article -- "Subliminal Messages from the North Pole and How to Protect Your Loved Ones" --
-- Mila blinked, froze, a mouthful of bitter caffeine still burning her tongue. She flicked her eyes back to the e-mail to give it her full, undivided attention. Maybe she'd read it wrong. Or perhaps it had been a misprint --
-- but no, no, there it was. Damn! Now she'd actually have to talk to the people in her department.

(( Late but what the hell ))
Not one to be accused of playing favorites, a gift from G. Cartier was delivered to every female employee of the company, even Shay and Mila.
The gift? a framed and autographed self portrait with a hand written note that reads "You're Welcome" and ..a red lipstick mark of a kiss?

((...awesome.))
Mila eyed the picture in something between outright fear and stunned disbelief. She moved, at first, to simply throw it in the trash along with the paper it had been wrapped in --
But no. This was a Christmas present, no matter how asinine. She held the picture in both hands for a moment, fingers awkward-tense-white (secretly hoping it might explode in a million pieces, quite literally taking it out of her hands), then cast a glance back behind here.
She supposed her office could use a splash of color...
Minutes later, she was fussing with the shelf behind her desk, trying to find a good angle for the gauche photo aside from "facing the wall." She cradled her phone between her ear and shoulder as she did this, waiting for someone to answer.
"Hey, Brooklyn By-the-Slice? What's the going rate for enough pizza to feed twenty five?"

Shay looked at the picture, holding it at arms length, then so close her nose almost touched it. She took off her glasses, blinked, and put them back on.
She took out a note pad and scrawled a quick note to herself in small, looping cursive in a pink glittery pen, then smiled to herself.
"Note - find what color of lip stick Gabe wears!"
She then put the photo in a drawer. A very important drawer, of course.
