We'd like for Aegir Inc. be a fun place where people can roleplay, share stories, and enjoy playing TSW together. We do have some common sense principles that will help to make that happen, and we ask that members follow them:
Core principles:
1. Be excellent to each other.
We're all here to have fun, and nobody's fun is more important than anybody else's. Treat other members of the group with the same respect and consideration that you'd like to have from them.
2. You are not your character, and your character is not you.
This is a roleplaying group, and roleplaying is a form of acting/storytelling. The group's dedicated channel should be used mainly for conversations that take place in-character (IC), and out-of-character (OOC) comments from the player should be clearly marked so that it's clear when the character is speaking and when the player is speaking. Keep in mind when conversing with others that a character's actions should reflect the motives and interests of the character, not the player--and you shouldn't assume that a player shares the same views on a given topic as their character.
3. None of us has the right to have fun by making it less fun for others.
While you may not be your character, you're still the one who decides what they do. If you decide that they should do something that's fun for you but the opposite of fun for the people around you, you're still the one responsible for that. If you're worried that your character's actions might make the game less fun for another player, ask them OOCly before you just start doing it. And as a protip: If the people around you are acting ICly like they would really rather be somewhere else, without even the slightest hint that they feel otherwise OOCly, that may be a hint that you should ask them OOCly if they're having as much fun as you are.
4. None of us can have the spotlight all the time.
There simply aren't enough hours in the day for each of us to advance our characters' individual stories in front of a large audience--and all of us have stories to tell. There is no action so necessary that your character simply must derail someone else's scene to do it. There is no action so important that it must be done now, in front of an audience, or not at all. Please, be patient, mindful of others, and aware that you are a guest in their story just as much as they are a guest in yours.
5. Each of us is responsible for their own fun.
We are at our best when we're having fun together and all of us should do what we can to include each other and make sure people who want to participate aren't being excluded. But that doesn't mean that it will always be possible. Please don't expect that other people have on obligation to keep you entertained--the person who is most responsible for your entertainment is you.
To the extent that we can follow these principles, we'll be a strong and healthy group that's fun to be a part of. However, if a problem does come up, Aegir Incorporated has multiple officers who act as group managers and arbitrators to get problems sorted out discreetly and with as little drama as possible. If you're unhappy with something about the group, let an officer know! And, of course, the same rules apply to the officers as everyone else--if you have a problem with something that an officer is doing, let one of the other officers know.
Applications:
People who want to apply to the group should submit an application form in the "Human Resources" subsection of the forums for an initial character. At least two officers must approve the application for the applicant character to be hired into Aegir, Inc., and the initial position will last for a trial period of a week to see whether the character is a good fit for the group. At the end of the week, the officers will confer among themselves about whether to bring the character in as a permanent employee. The purpose of the application process is really to see whether the applicant and the group are a good fit for each other, so any member of the group with a question or comment about the character during the application process should feel encouraged to speak up about it.
Alts:
If you want to bring an alt into the group, let an officer know what the basic idea behind the character is. If they approve of it, a brief biography similar to the IC section of the application should be posted in the "Dossiers" section for final approval by any officer for acceptance into the group. There's no trial period and no OOC section of the application for alts--after all, we already know who the player is!
A note
These rules cover the basics, but others may be added as needed. Arguing that acting like an ass is okay because you haven't broken any official rules is a quick way to be removed from the group. Now game on!
