Running into my first day of work and I swallowed a bug. I stopped, coughed, choked - I spilled my coffee on my only clean dress shirt. Behind me a homeless man laughed good naturedly. I shook my head, composed my self and turned to give him a warm smile, then what was left of my coffee.
"Very kind of you, Miss" he raised the glass in salute, then took a long appreciative drink. That should have been my drink, but at the time I thought he needed it more. I may have been right. I needed something stronger.
"Just remember - if that's the worst that happens to you today, you're still better off than the lot of us."
I nodded and ran to catch the next possible sub to Brooklynn, thinking little more of it. Thinking back, now, I can see his smile. The wink that was not winked. (wunk?) He knew that would probably be the highlight of my day.
Case File - Melissa Jacobi
DOB - 04/30/1990
POB - Santa Cruz, CA
Residence - New York City, NY (Washington Heights)
Height - 5'4
Weight - 109 lbs
Eyes - Blue
Hair - Blonde (natural) Red (dyed)
Known Relatives:
Father - Lieutenant Colonel David Jacobi (USAF, Retired)
Mother - Dianne Jacobi
Sister - Melanie Jacobi (D.O.B. 03/14/1985)
Melissa was a picture of normalcy growing up. (Normal? She didn't have a vampire best friend or kill her family in some "unexplained fire" - normal is a sliding scale here). She surfed. She drank. She lost her virginity at 15. She was never prom queen and never went to prom. She graduated high school on time with a yawn inducing 3.4 and dreams of going to Chicago to study photography, but instead found herself joining the Air Force, following the footsteps her father left for her in hopes those steps would lead to money for school.
She had an unexpected time there, finding herself in the position of Crew Chief and quickly attaining a rank of Staff Sergeant. She still took pictures in what spare time she could find. That was still the goal, she told herself.
After her term ended she found herself in New York, attaining a Bachelors in Business Administration and Systems Analysis.
